Maria Andrikopoulou is a visual artist and educator based in Thessaloniki, Greece. She was born in Kalavryta, Achaia. She studied at the Department of Visual and Applied Arts at the School of Fine Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), and completed her postgraduate studies in the Master’s Program “Art and the Public Sphere”, co-organized by the School of Fine Arts and the Department of Political Sciences at AUTH. In 2021, she co-founded the independent curatorial and artistic collective “ fast filly”.
Her practice primarily focuses on multimedia installations, exploring the relationship between space, time, memory, and recollection. Nature and the urban landscape function as a kind of “archaeological excavation.” In composing her works, she draws on diverse fields such as architecture, archaeology, and agronomy.
Her methodologies include walking, field recording, mapping, 3D scanning, collecting discarded urban materials, plants, and weeds, as well as gardening. These actions are followed by meticulous documentation, archiving, and reconfiguration of the gathered material to create new “sensorial spatialities.” Her recent work investigates the hybrid nature of physical and digital states within everyday life, along with a shift in the understanding of interspecies relationships.
