Maria Andrikopoulou is a visual artist and educator based in Thessaloniki. She was born in Kalavryta, Achaia. She studied at the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the School of Fine Arts at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), as well as in the Interdepartmental Master’s Program Art and Public Sphere, jointly organized by the School of Fine Arts and the Department of Political Science at AUTH. In 2021, she co-founded the independent curatorial and artistic collective fast filly.

Her practice focuses on multimedia installations that investigate the intersections of space, memory, and ecology. Drawing from architecture, archaeology, and agronomy, she approaches both nature and the urban landscape as sites of excavation. Her methodologies include walking, mapping, field recordings, 3D scanning, and gardening, often combined with the collection of abandoned urban materials and spontaneous vegetation. These actions are accompanied by meticulous documentation, archiving, and re-composition of material, aiming at the creation of new “sensory spatialities” that blur the boundaries between the natural and the digital.

Her recent work explores interspecies relations, with an emphasis on symbiotic forms of cohabitation. Through the creation of hybrid pseudo-ecosystems, she develops installations that function as experimental fields of care, resilience, and survival within the urban environment.

Her artistic practice is closely intertwined with her educational work. She currently works in primary education as a visual arts teacher, while her practice unfolds through participatory workshops that she co-coordinates with Eva Papanikolaou, art theorist. These workshops approach space, nature, and urban ecosystems as collective, experimental fields of creation and care, inviting participants to develop narratives and practices of cohabitation with non-human entities and environmental instabilities. In this way, the projects combine theoretical analysis, artistic experimentation, and participatory learning, highlighting the dynamic relationships between humans, plants, and place.
